Reliability models applicable to space telescope solar array assembly system

    Get PDF
A complex system may consist of a number of subsystems with several components in series, parallel, or combination of both series and parallel. In order to predict how well the system will perform, it is necessary to know the reliabilities of the subsystems and the reliability of the whole system. The objective of the present study is to develop mathematical models of the reliability which are applicable to complex systems. The models are determined by assuming k failures out of n components in a subsystem. By taking k = 1 and k = n, these models reduce to parallel and series models; hence, the models can be specialized to parallel, series combination systems. The models are developed by assuming the failure rates of the components as functions of time and as such, can be applied to processes with or without aging effects. The reliability models are further specialized to Space Telescope Solar Arrray (STSA) System. The STSA consists of 20 identical solar panel assemblies (SPA's). The reliabilities of the SPA's are determined by the reliabilities of solar cell strings, interconnects, and diodes. The estimates of the reliability of the system for one to five years are calculated by using the reliability estimates of solar cells and interconnects given n ESA documents. Aging effects in relation to breaks in interconnects are discussed

Anatomy of petioles of 20 species belonging to 12 genera of the family Acanthaceae is investigated. The observations pertain to outline of petiole in T. S., the cell wall contours of epidermis, hypodermis, conjunctive tissue, besides the vascular tissue and cell inclusions, if any. The vascular tissue is generally resolved in an central arc and few vascular bundles. The various anatomical features differ taxon to taxon and hence found useful for their identification.&nbsp

Could the Anti-Chaperone VER155008 Replace Temozolomide for Glioma Treatment

Cancer inducible molecular chaperone HSP90 is of great importance as an anticancer target. Proteomic analysis showed that inhibiting HSP90 by the geldanamycin derivative, 17-AAG elevated the expression of the co-chaperone Hsp70. In this study we used HSP90 selective inhibitor 17-AAG and HSP70/90 dual inhibitor, VER155008 (VER) in U87-MG glioma cells. miRNAs microarray technology was used to evaluate the efficacy of these inhibitory drugs compared with temozolomide (TMZ), used as a standard treatment for glioma. Microarrays data identified 154 differentially expressed miRNAs using stringent or unstringent parameters. 16 miRNAs were overlapped between treatments, 13 upregulated and one downregulated miRNA were overlapped between TMZ and VER. The miRNA target prediction software was used for these overlapped miRNAs and identified 6 of the 13 upregulated miRNAs target methyltransferase genes. The IC50, together with Akt and HSP70 and 90 protein level data favour VER and TMZ to 17-AAG, however due to the selectivity of VER to cancer cells as a potent antichaperon, it may be more favourable to the standard TMZ

A uracil nitroso amine based colorimetric sensor for the detection of CuĀ²āŗ ions from aqueous environment and its practical applications

A simple uracil nitroso amine based colorimetric chemosensor (UNA-1) has been synthesized and screened for its cation recognition ability. Sensor UNA-1 exhibited a high sensitivity and selectivity towards CuĀ²āŗ ions in aqueous medium in the presence of a wide range of other competing cations (Agāŗ, AlĀ³āŗ, BaĀ²āŗ+, CaĀ²āŗ, CdĀ²āŗ, CoĀ²āŗ, CrĀ³āŗ, Csāŗ, FeĀ²āŗ, FeĀ³āŗ, Liāŗ, MgĀ²āŗ, MnĀ²āŗ, Naāŗ, NiĀ²āŗ, PbĀ²āŗ, ZnĀ²āŗ, HgĀ²āŗ and SrĀ²āŗ). With CuĀ²āŗ, the sensor UNA-1 gave a distinct color change from colorless to dark yellow by forming a complex of 1:1 stoichiometry. Furthermore, sensor UNA-1 was successfully utilized in the preparation of test strips and supported silica for the detection of CuĀ²āŗ ions from aqueous environment

Nodal anatomical study in some Rubiaceae

Anatomies of the nodes belonging to 20 species 11 genera of the family Rubiaceae are investigated. Of these, 16 species exhibited trilacunar, three-traced supply to the leaves. In case of Canthium coromandelicum, Gardenia latifolia, G. longistyla, the nodes show five-lacunar, five-traced supply. In Luculia gratissiuma, they are unilacunar, one-traced. Variation in emergence of median and lateral traces however, is observed. It is the median trace that departs first in 15 species; whereas in the rest others lateral traces emerge earlier, except Luculia gratissima wherein the node being unilacunar, one-traced only. The stipule usually receives vascular supply from the lateral traces. However in Luculia gratissima, it is the solitary trace that bears vascular supply to them. The present authors are inclined to regard the unilacunar, one-traced supply basic for the family Rubiaceae, whereas others are thought later attainments.    &nbsp

FORMULATION AND EVALUATION OF BESIFLOXACIN NON-ERODIBLE OCULAR INSERTS

Objective: Ocular inserts offer many advantages over conventional dosage forms, like increased ocular residence, the possibility of releasing a drug at a slow and constant rate, accurate dosing, exclusion of preservatives, and increased shelf life. Besifloxacin is a very important drug for the treatment of infectious conjunctivitis. The present study was aimed to formulate and evaluate Besifloxacin Non-Erodible Ocular Insert using Pullulan and polyvinyl pyrrolidone as a drug reservoir, PEG 400 as a plasticizer, and Eudragit RS-100 as a rate-controlling membrane. Methods: Central composite design was employed to study the effect of independent variables, i.e., effects of Pullulan amount (X1) and PVP (X2) on the dependent variables, i.e., % moisture absorption and In vitro diffusion rate. After evaluation of all thirteen batches of ocular insert reservoir formulation, BSF2 and BSF4 were selected as a satisfactory formulation and was sandwiched between rate-controlling membrane, which was made up of Eudragit RS-100 (3 and 5%). Results: The drug content of all formulations was found to be in the range of 95.33 to 99.89 %. In vitro diffusion of Besifloxacin from reservoir formulations (BSF1 to BSF13) was found to be 62.44 to 70.62 %. In vitro diffusion rate of an ocular insert of Besifloxacin can offer benefits such as increasing residence time, prolonging drug release in the eye for 24 h. Eudragit RS-100, as a sustained drug release polymer, showed promising sustained released action. Conclusion: The study concluded that Besifloxacin non-erodible ocular inserts can be successfully developed using Pullulan and polyvinyl pyrrolidone, which will sustain the release of the drug also reduce the frequency of administration, and thereby may help to improve patient compliance

This paper documents the observations made with respect to library function rand() on Windows 10 and Kubuntu 19.04 platform with various compilers such as TDM-GCC 4.9.2 64 bit for Windows 10, clang for Windows 10,Microsoft Visual Studio VC++ compiler for Windows 10 and gcc for Kubuntu 19.04 for a very simple C program. The observations were with respect to uniqueness of the generated random numbers and execution speed of the whole program

Investigations on foliar epidermis in some Rubiaceae

    Get PDF
The paper reports foliar epidermal features of 20 unstudied species belonging 12 genera of the family Rubiaceae. The foliar stomates although paracytic generally in the taxa investigated, other types are also noticed rarely or occasionally on the same surface. The other epidermal features such as stomatal index (S.I) and frequency (S.F), stomatal abnormalities, cell wall contours, cell inclusions, etc. have been described in detail. Significance of various epidermal features in taxonomy of the taxa investigated is discussed.Ƃ
